“Borz” laid claim to the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight crown with a woefully one-sided unanimous decision over Dricus Du Plessis in the UFC 319 main event on Aug. 16 at the United Center in Chicago. All three judges scored it 50-44. The victory moved Chimaev to 15-0 and pushed him to the head of the class at 185 pounds. He now sets out to prepare for his first challenger from a group that includes Reinier de Ridder, Caio Borralho, Nassourdine Imavov and Anthony Hernandez.

As Chimaev awaits word on his next assignment from UFC matchmakers, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied him to this point:

31: Years of age for Chimaev, who was born on May 1, 1994 in Gvardeyskoye, Russia—a small village of some 9,000 people in the Chechen Republic situated nearly 6,800 miles from UFC headquarters in Las Vegas.

14: Men other than Chimaev who have held the undisputed UFC middleweight crown. Du Plessis, Dave Menne, Murilo Bustamante, Evan Tanner, Rich Franklin, Anderson Silva, Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping, Georges St. Pierre, Robert Whittaker, Israel Adesanya, Alex Pereira and Sean Strickland comprise the list.

12: Chimaev wins by stoppage, accounting for 80% of his career total (15). He has secured six wins by submission—three brabo chokes, two rear-naked chokes, one face crank—and six more by knockout or technical knockout.

529: Total strikes landed by Chimaev in his five-round blowout of Du Plessis. It established a new UFC record in the category and shattered the previous mark of 447, set by Max Holloway in his memorable five-round unanimous decision over Calvin Kattar at UFC on ABC 1 in January 2021.

350,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Chimaev across his nine appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” six times and “Fight of the Night” once.

26: Takedowns completed by Chimaev in the UFC. He has done so on 47 attempts, giving him a success rate of 55.3%.

8: Consecutive calendar years in which Chimaev has fought at least once. In addition to his 1-0 mark in 2025, he went 4-0 in 2018, 2-0 in 2019, 3-0 in 2020, 1-0 in 2021, 2-0 in 2022, 1-0 in 2023 and 1-0 in 2024.

2: Sub-minute finishes on the Chimaev resume. He struck Sidney Wheeler into submission in 35 seconds under the Brave Combat Federation banner on Dec. 22, 2018 and punched out Gerald Meerschaert in 17 seconds at UFC Fight Night 178 on Sept. 19, 2020.

6: Countries in which Chimaev has plied his trade as a professional mixed martial artist. He has suited up in the United States, Sweden, Bahrain, India, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

212: Combined victories between the nine men—Du Plessis, Whittaker, Meerschaert, Kamaru Usman, Kevin Holland, Gilbert Burns, Jingliang Li, Rhys McKee and John Phillips—Chimaev has beaten as a member of the UFC roster. They sport a .713 cumulative winning percentage at 212-85-1.
